CAMP STAFF BIOS
Chris Gobrecht, Camp Director, Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach, Yale University
Gobrecht has amassed a 449-369 (.549) record during her 28 seasons, ranking her 31st
among active coaches in career victories. The ninth coach in the 36-year history of Yale
women's basketball, Gobrecht has more career victories than any other active coach in
the Ivy League, men or women. In her tenure at Yale, she has coached an Ivy League
Rookie of the Year (Melissa Colborne, 2006-07) and two first team All-Ivy players
(Colborne, 2007-08 and Erica Davis, 2006-07).
Dianne Nolan, Assistant Coach, Yale University
Dianne Nolan is in her second season at Yale after 28 years as the head coach at Fairfield
University. She accumulated 456 wins at Fairfield and led the Stags to four NCAA
Tournament appearances. Nolan's teams won three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
(MAAC) Championships, and she earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors five times.
Queen Smith, Assistant Coach, Yale University
Queen Smith is in her second season as an assistant coach at Yale. She works primarily with
the Bulldogs' guards and coordinates team travel. The life-long New Haven resident worked
as the activity director for the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) camps at Yale since
1997. She was inducted into the New Haven Tip-Off Club Hall of Fame on Nov. 13, 2007.
Kathryn Whartenby, Camp Coordinator, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Kathryn Whartenby is in her second year as a strength and conditioning coach at Yale.
She works with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Prior to Yale, she was
at the University of Florida where she worked with the women’s basketball and soccer
teams. Whartenby also served as coordinator of the Gator Soccer camps.
